Shops, Pharmacies and Banks

Our location means we are very close to the main shopping area and there are many shops, banks and eateries to choose from. A map of Cambridge can be found here.

Pharmacies

  • Boots The Chemist (St Andrews Street) is the closest pharmacy.
  • Superdrug (Sidney Street) also has a pharmacy.

Banks

There are a number of banks located very close by to Christ’s College. Opening times do vary so do check the websites.

Post Office

The main central Post Office is located on St Andrews Street – a few minutes from the College.

Convenience Stores

Bigger supermarkets can be found at the Beehive Centre which is home to an Asda and a Marks & Spencer Simply Food. A  larger Tesco superstore and Aldi can be found along Newmarket Road, which is a 20 minute walk away or you can catch the number 3 bus from St Andrews Street (near Ted Baker)

Grande Arcade

For seasoned shopaholics the Grand Arcade, in the heart of Cambridge, offers a mix of 50 designer and high street retailers. Its light and airy design mean it’s easy to navigate around the stores, which include John Lewis, Ted Baker, Swarovski, Sketchers, and Russell & Bromley.

Grafton Centre

Just a short walk from the College is another major shopping complex, the Grafton Centre, which also has a cinema. The Centre itself is home to many high-street chains including Next, H&M, River Island, New Look, and The Entertainer.

Independent Shops – Mill Road

Cambridge is also home to a vast number of independent shops. You’ll find all sorts of gems in the city’s passageways and squares and The Mill Road area is known for being a hub of indie stores and community events.

Independent Shops – All Saint’s Passage

The little side street is located just off Bridge Street and is home to The Cambridge Cheese Company. If delis and cheese are your things this is a particularly good place to visit. The shop stocks a range of farmhouse cheeses, charcuterie, olives, antipasti, wines, beers, chutneys, and preserves from specialists in the UK and around the world.

If you walk towards the end of All Saints Passage you will find All Saints Garden Art and Craft Market.  This gem of a market takes place every Saturday and is an award-winning art and craft market. Wander around and take in the atmosphere, from the lovely smell of fresh coffee to the unique range of products on sale, including pottery, paintings, jewellery.

Independent Shops – Rose Crescent

Rose Crescent hosts a delightful selection of shops, including specialist beauty shops Neal’s Yard, Jo Malone, and Molton Brown.

Located along Rose Crescent is the Department of Magical Gifts, an independent shop selling Harry Potter gifts. This is the perfect spot for any Harry Potter fan to indulge in a variety of goods from wands to potion books. It’s worth a trip just to take in the magical atmosphere of wizards, witches, and muggles.
