What’s on in Cambridge this September
September is a lovely time to visit Cambridge. The summer crowds begin to ease, the city takes on an early autumn feel, and there’s still plenty happening, from live music and theatre to exhibitions, festivals, markets and family-friendly events.
Whether you’re planning a weekend city break, a midweek escape or simply looking for something to do during the month, here are some of the highlights to look out for in Cambridge this September.

One of the highlights of September is
Open Cambridge
Taking place on 12–13 September. The annual event provides opportunities to discover some of the University’s buildings, collections and research that aren’t always open to the public.
Duxford Airshow
The Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show returns to IWM Duxford on 12 and 13 September 2026, bringing the sights and sounds of wartime Britain to the skies above one of the c
ountry’s most historic airfields. This year’s event is particularly special as it marks 90 years since the first flight of the Spitfire prototype, with visitors able to see iconic aircraft including Spitfires and Hurricanes take to the skies, alongside the spectacular Big Wing Formation. With vintage entertainment, living history, music and plenty to explore on the ground, it’s a fantastic September day out for aviation enthusiasts, history lovers and families alike.
What’s on in Cambridge this September- Theatre, comedy and entertainment
Plenty is happening on stage this September, with comedy, theatre and live entertainment taking place across the city.
At the Arts Theatre Cambridge, the multi-award-winning musical Blood Brothers comes to Cambridge from 15–19 September, offering a great choice for an evening out in the city.
If comedy is more your thing, there are plenty of opportunities for a good laugh throughout the month, including Big Deal Comedy Club events and performances from comedians such as Leanne Clarke.
Over at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, September’s programme includes comedy, live music and special events, making it well worth checking the listings if you’re visiting Cambridge.

What’s on in Cambridge this September – Art, museums and exhibitions
September is also a great month to explore Cambridge’s museums and galleries.
The Fitzwilliam Museum is always worth a visit, with its impressive collections spanning art and antiquities from around the world. Meanwhile, Kettle’s Yard offers a very different experience, combining a historic house with modern and contemporary art.

For something a little different, Little Acorns in the Gardens takes place at Wimpole Estate from 10–24 September, offering an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and explore the estate.
You could also combine a walk around the city with a traditional Cambridge punting trip – particularly enjoyable as the busy summer season begins to wind down.
Festivals and special events
There are several festivals and community events taking place in and around Cambridge during September.

Markets, fairs and shopping
If you enjoy browsing independent stalls and discovering something different, September has several markets and fairs to explore.
The Cambridge Vegan Market returns to Parker’s Piece on 26 September, while Cambridge’s Craft & Flea Market takes place on the same day. There are also wedding fairs and other local events taking place across Cambridge and the surrounding area during the month.
