When you book accommodation with us, your agreement is with Christ’s College (company number RC000113) and Christ’s College Trading Limited (company number 09662638), registered in England, registered office Christ’s College, St Andrew’s Street, Cambridge CB2 3BU (“we”, “us”, “our”). We trade as Christ’s College Hospitality.
In these terms, “you” and “your” mean the person named first on the booking and everyone else staying under that booking. The person making the booking does so on behalf of everyone in the party, confirms that they accept these terms, and is responsible for payment.
These terms apply to bookings made directly with us and, so far as they are consistent with the booking channel’s own terms, to bookings made through a third party such as Booking.com. Where a third-party channel’s terms conflict with these terms, the channel’s terms will apply to the booking and payment process and these terms will apply to your stay with us.
1. Making a booking
Your contract. A contract is formed when we send you a written booking confirmation. Until you receive that confirmation, your booking is a request only.
Age. We do not accept bookings from, or on behalf of, anyone under 18 years of age. Our accommodation is not suitable for families or young children.
Party size. The maximum party size is 10 guests. Only guests named on the booking may stay in the accommodation. Anyone not named on the booking will be asked to leave, and no refund will be given.
Special requirements. Please tell us about any accessibility, dietary or other requirements when you book so that we can tell you whether we are able to meet them.
Enquiries. Our Reservations Office is open Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 16:30. Email reservations@christs.cam.ac.uk or call +44 (0)1223 334926.
2. Prices, payment and cancellation
Prices. Prices are shown on our website and confirmed to you at the time of booking. The price confirmed in your booking confirmation is the price you pay, unless you change your booking.
What is included. Unless your confirmation says otherwise, the price includes your room, bed linen, towels, toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities, and breakfast served in the Main or Upper Dining Hall.
Payment. All stays are paid for in advance. You will be asked for your card details when you book in order to confirm the booking, and payment for the full value of your stay is taken before your arrival.
No deposit. We do not take a security deposit or a damage deposit.
Cancellation by you. You may cancel free of charge up to and including the day before your arrival date. Cancellations made on the day of arrival are not refundable. To cancel, contact the Reservations Office on +44 (0)1223 334926 or at reservations@christs.cam.ac.uk, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 16:30. If you booked through a third-party channel such as Booking.com, that channel’s cancellation terms apply and you should cancel through them.
If you do not arrive. If you do not arrive and have not cancelled in line with the above, your booking is treated as cancelled, the room may be re-let, and the payment is not refunded.
Cancellation by us. Very occasionally we may need to cancel or move a booking, for example where College operations, building works or an emergency make the accommodation unavailable. If that happens we will tell you as soon as possible and you may choose either a full refund or any alternative arrangement we are able to offer. We will have no further liability to you.
3. Arrival and departure
Check-in is from 14:00 at the Porters’ Lodge. If you arrive early you are welcome to leave your luggage at the Porters’ Lodge and enjoy the grounds, the Buttery or the bar while your room is prepared.
Check-out is by 10:00. Please check out at the Porters’ Lodge and return your key. Late check-out is not normally available.
Parking. There is no parking on site. We recommend public transport or the Park and Ride sites outside the city centre. Vehicles are left at your own risk.
Access. The College grounds are secured from 16:00. The Porters’ Lodge is staffed 24 hours a day and can be reached on +44 (0)1223 334900.
4. During your stay
No smoking. Smoking and e-cigarettes are not permitted in bedrooms or in any College building. The only area where smoking is allowed is the Darwin Portico behind Third Court, which is marked on the College map.
No pets. We are not able to accommodate pets, with the exception of assistance dogs, which are welcome — please tell us in advance.
Fire safety. Please read the College Fire Regulations displayed on your bedroom or wardrobe door. If the fire alarm sounds — a continuous ringing bell — leave by the nearest fire exit.
Consideration for others. Christ’s College is a working, historic College with students, Fellows and staff living and working on site. Please keep noise to a minimum, particularly at night, and behave considerately towards other guests and members of the College.
Events and gatherings. Parties, gatherings and events may not be held in the accommodation. Filming and photography for commercial use require our prior written permission.
Illegal substances are not permitted anywhere in the College.
Access to your room. We may enter your room for cleaning, maintenance, health and safety checks, or in an emergency.
Your belongings. You are responsible for your personal possessions. We are not responsible for loss, damage or theft of items brought into the College, other than where the loss is caused by our negligence. If you leave something behind we will do our best to return it, but we cannot guarantee this.
Behaviour. We may ask you or any member of your party to leave, without refund, if you breach these terms or behave in a way that is illegal, offensive, disruptive or distressing to others.
5. Damage
Please leave your room in a reasonable condition. You are responsible for any damage caused during your stay by you or your party, beyond fair wear and tear, and we may charge you the reasonable cost of repair, replacement or additional cleaning. We will tell you what has been damaged and what the cost is before charging you.
6. Other important information
Website accuracy. We take care to keep our website accurate and up to date, but photographs are examples only and room furnishings, layout, decoration and views vary between rooms.
Events beyond our control. We are not responsible for failure to perform our obligations where this is caused by something beyond our reasonable control, including fire, flood, severe weather, epidemic or pandemic, industrial action, failure of utilities, acts of government, war or terrorism.
Your legal rights. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law. These terms do not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
Changes to these terms. We may update these terms from time to time. The terms that apply to your booking are those published on this page on the date your booking is confirmed.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
Your personal information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Comments and complaints. If something is not right, please tell the Porters’ Lodge or the Reservations Office during your stay so that we can put it right. You can also write to us at Christ’s College, St Andrew’s Street, Cambridge CB2 3BU.
