Accessibility

Last updated: 23 October 2026

We want everyone to be able to use this website, whatever device they use and however they browse. We have built it to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and we check it with automated accessibility testing tools and by hand.

What we have done

  • Clear structure. Each page has one main heading, with the headings below it in order, and the main areas of each page (header, navigation, main content and footer) are marked up so that screen readers can move between them.
  • Skip link. A “Skip to main content” link is the first thing on every page for keyboard and screen reader users.
  • Keyboard access. Menus, buttons, room details, the photo gallery and forms can all be used with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline. Pop-up panels can be closed with the Escape key and return you to where you were.
  • Colour and text. Text has been checked for strong colour contrast, and pages can be zoomed to 200% without losing content.
  • Images. Photographs have text descriptions, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Forms. Every form field has a visible label, required fields are marked, and errors are explained in words, not by colour alone.
  • Motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site does not use animated scrolling or effects.
  • Video and maps. Videos and maps load only when you choose to play or open them.

Content from other providers

Some parts of the site come from other organisations, in particular our online booking system, embedded maps and videos. We choose providers who take accessibility seriously, but we cannot control everything about how their content works. If you have any difficulty booking online, please email reservations@christs.cam.ac.uk or call +44 (0)1223 334926 and we will be happy to make your booking for you.

Access during your stay

Christ’s College is a historic site, and access varies between buildings and rooms. If you have access needs, please contact the Reservations Office before you book so that we can advise you on the most suitable room and any help we can offer.

Tell us about a problem

If you find something on this website that is difficult to use, or you need information in a different format, please email reservations@christs.cam.ac.uk or call +44 (0)1223 334926 (Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 16:30). Please tell us the page and what went wrong, and we will do our best to fix it.
